Curriculum Pages - Geography

The children at Queen Eleanor Primary School commence their geographical studies by looking at the environment they live in and gradually move out to national and global levels as they move through the school. It is hoped this will enable the children to appreciate the physical factors that have influenced our lifestyle, those that have influenced others into different lifestyles and so help understanding and build tolerance and celebration of the resulting differences.

The children study physical geography through weather, water, rivers, the seaside, mountain environments and the rainforest.

Human geography is studied through looking at the local environment – including making improvements that could be made and safety issues, villages – in England and in India, What’s in the News, connecting themselves to the wider world and leisure activities.

Our geography teaching complies with the National Curriculum specifications using the QCA guidelines. It is supported with good resources and appropriate visits. During the last year these have included a visit Woburn to look at woodland management, trips to look at the local environment, a trip to northern France, Willen Lake and a talk on Water safety.
