Music is a valuable and enriching part of the curriculum open to all
students regardless of other academic ability or physical difficulties.
All of the children at Queen Eleanor Primary School are fortunate to
have music lessons within the timetable where they follow the National
Curriculum: listening to, appraising, composing and performing music
together. The children experience many types of music from different
cultures and historic periods.

Small group tuition
Children from year 3 have external peripatetic tuition in Dalcroze,
which promotes an understanding of music through movement. Devised by
Jaques Dalcroze in the 1890’s it encourages the whole body to experience
rhythm and feel music. This will benefit the children in learning
performing skills and build confidence for all lessons. Older children
have access to free tuition in recorder, violin, cello and brass. These
are all enjoyed and the children regularly perform within the school.
The children learn to sing group songs, in rounds and have the
opportunity to perform at Milton Keynes Theatre each year in the Music
Festival. There is a school choir, which meets out of school hours and
all children are welcome to join the choir in Key stage 2. The choir
learn a variety of songs and have had the chance to sing in the Milton
Keynes Carol Competition and also entertain the public in Middleton Hall
during the Christmas shopping period. The school has just acquired a
small collection of keyboards thanks to the Tesco Computer For Schools
voucher scheme. These will be used to enhance both the curriculum
lessons and after school musical activities.
