Curriculum Pages - Religious Education

All children take part in Religious Education unless their parent specifically requests that children be excluded from lessons. This can only be in consultation with the Headteacher and parents should make arrangements for their children to be supervised during these lessons.

Religious Education at Queen Eleanor is based on the agreed syllabus adopted by Milton Keynes Council. During their time in the School, pupils will study a range of themes which cover several of the world religions but reflect the fact that the religious traditions in Great Britain are, in the main, Christian. Aspects of religion are included within the general topics studied by each class.

School assemblies, held daily, are an important part of the children’s religious education. Assemblies take the form of a song, a time for reflection / prayer and a story. The story is taken from one of the world religions, current affairs, history or fable and is chosen to reflect the moral values which most people would uphold i.e. taking care of ourselves, each other and the world we live in. Major festivals will be celebrated or discussed in their turn. Any parents who are concerned about their child’s attendance at assemblies or religious education lessons and are considering withdrawing them from these activities should discuss the matter with the Headteacher. If this decision is to be taken by a parent, alternative arrangements for supervision during assembly or lessons can then be discussed.
