Sport is recognised at Queen Eleanor Primary School as
being a vital part of the curriculum. We believe that, experienced in a
safe and supportive environment, it is a unique and vital contributor to
a pupil’s physical development and well-being. We provide a broad and
balanced P.E. curriculum, which encourages pupils to develop increasing
self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies,
within a variety of movement situations.

We were really proud to be awarded the Active
Mark in recognition that at least 90% of our children take part
in at least 2 hours high quality PE and sport each week. As well
as their normal PE - Gymnastics, Games, Dance or Athletics our
children play: badminton, football, tag rugby, netball, rounders,
Kwik cricket. They also swim and take part in Cross
Country Running. |

Running Sports Day |
Pupils are highly motivated. |
Whilst retaining its unique contribution to a pupil’s movement
education, physical education also has considerable potential to
contribute to a much wider area of learning. It helps to develop
positive attitudes, confidence, self-esteem and respect for others,
through both co-operation in team work and competition.

Sports Day |
Colour co-ordinated family teams compete together. |
There are also strong links between physical activity and
concentration, as well as spatial awareness and hand-eye co-ordination.
These are skills which are vital to other, classroom related areas of
the curriculum, such as Literacy and Numeracy. Through the selection
of suitably differentiated and logically developed tasks, it is intended
that our pupils, irrespective of their innate ability, will all enjoy
success and be motivated to develop their individual potential fully,
irrespective of their age, gender, cultural or ethnic background.
Physical education at Queen Eleanor Primary School currently includes
athletics, dance, gymnastics, striking and fielding games such as
rounders, football and cricket and net & wall games, such as basketball,
badminton and tennis. Swimming is part of the school curriculum and all
pupils receive swimming lessons in a pool located directly next to the
school.

Lessons have a strong focus on swimming technique
and also develop water confidence through fun activities. |
We also offer after-school opportunities to develop physical
education interests and skills still further and regularly take part in
a variety of district tournaments and competitions.
